Thom Browne Fall/Winter 2024 Couture - Review

This layered show by Thom Browne made onlookers gasp and question. Far from the usual perfected, clean lines of Browne, we saw deconstructed garments made of many different weights of muslin. There we sat, picking apart the muslin that made up the layers of the clothing as well as picking apart the influences behind the collection. From inside-out tailoring to the embroidery circle masks, it was a treat to witness this show. The museum created the perfect setting for the collection as a museum that celebrates the form and function of design as well as the beauty of it. Fitting right in with the collections choice to highlight the building blocks of couture clothing.

Browne curated a myriad of pieces that sewed together a story of dressmaking, the underbelly of the beautiful couture items we witness throughout couture fashion week. Though they may have been made to seem unfinished, the garments of this collection were anything but. Attention to detail was on the menu, with hand sewn gold beading and hours and hours of work going into painstakingly perfecting the pieces that walked the runway. Tiered ruffles made up maxi skirts that bounced as the models walked the runway and structured jackets gave the collection a signature Browne feel.

Each model had grey sculpted tresses that sat close to the head, reminiscent of the Greco-Roman statues that they showed off during their mid-runway pause. Perhaps a reference to the oncoming Olympics being held in France this summer. Clad in neutral cream, it was not a stretch to picture each model as a statuesque sculpture in a museum. Another ode to the games was found in the shades of bronze, silver and gold. Dresses, blazers, coats and skirts were found in all three shades, glinting against the backdrop of the Musee de Arts Decoratifs.

This collection showcased the abilities of the Thom Browne team with perfected embroidery and gorgeous pieces we’re sure to remember for seasons to come. It gets gold from me.

This sculptural dream stole the eyes of our fashion editor.

Deconstructed Dreams

Dressmaking was the focus for this collection and the foundations that make up couture garments.

Statuesque

The grey, sculpted tresses of the models cemented that Greco-Roman feel.
